In 2006, Alyssa Crisswell began recording her first album, Alabamulance, deep in the backwoods of Alabama. She broke out some old recording equipment, convinced her parents to play as featured musicians, and adopted the moniker ‘Sue Scrofa’, the scientific name for her favorite animal — the pig.

But what started as a lo-fi solo project soon garnered more attention than expected, landing the young songstress on WERS Boston’s local music week, a spot as a semi-finalist on Prairie Home Companion’s Talented Twenties Competition, and a featured artist on Birmingham’s NPR station.

In 2010, exhausted from working as a scenic painter, a teacher, and a waitress, Crisswell decided it was time to take her life, and Sue Scrofa, in a new direction. She wrangled up fellow Birmingham musicians Shane Jewell (guitar) and Alan Rogers (drums) and moved across the country to Los Angeles, CA, where they met bassist Roxy Radulescu through a serendipitous outing.

Since then, the folk-pop group has earned the title of the Deli Magazine LA’s artist of the month and released its second album, White Cat. The quartet is currently at work on a forthcoming EP, while booking shows like crazy in Los Angeles.
