Bio
Subhash Sapru is a media professional, author, photography mentor and contributor. His photographs have achieved significant international acclaim as these have been exhibited in world-wide exhibitions. Many of his images have also been awarded.
It was in the year 1997 that he began to enter his images in international photo exhibitions and since then he has not looked back. He was made an Associate of India International Photographic Council (IIPC) in 2003 and of Photographic Society of America in 2007.He also got distinction of Associate of Wilmington International Exhibition of Photography (AWIEP) in 2010. He got distinction of Proficiency in Photography (PPSA) from Photographic Society of America in 2015. In the year 2018, he was awarded Honorary distinction of Excellence of United States Photographic Alliance (EUSPA) , USA. He is also Life Member of Federation of Indian Photography and IIPC and an active member of the PSA since 1998.
As Mr. Subhash Sapru offered his writings and images of his homeland to the monthly magazine of the Photographic Society of America, the submissions were recognized by Ms. Jean Timmermeister, FPSA, the then Managing Editor of the Journal of the Photographic Society of America, as of exceptional interest and quality. Guiding him to develop his writing and to showcase his fine photographic images, Ms Timmermeister opened up additional opportunities for Mr. Sapru to share his talents. These opportunities added ever more accolades from his fellow photographers for both his fine images and his descriptive writings.
His contributions of high journalistic value like Gujarat Earthquake (July 2002, Special PJ Issue), A Glimpse into the Darkness of Life ( July 2007)”, A date with his Holiness Dalai Lama (September 2008) and Solar Eclipse: Opportunity for Images of Human Interest (June 2010) have been highly acknowledged by the readers of the PSA Journal. Equally interesting are his contributions of travel like Photography Making Travel by Train Fun (Jan 2005) and International Lavi Fair: A Photographic Opportunity (Sept 2006). He authored a book on photojournalism entitled as “Photopatrakarita”, which was published by Haryana Sahitya Academy,Panchkula,India. His images and write-ups on various aspects of photography have also been published by prominent newspapers and magazines like The Tribune, Indian Express, Femina, View Finder and Better Photography.
His solo show on images made in the USA in 1999, 'US Kaleidoscope', had drawn the attention of international media.His second solo show, “In Passing” (2007) aptly reflected his interest in capturing the element of human interest.
His growing interest in bird photography made him take it seriously and he became a member of Chandigarh Bird Club. He also contributes to its Newsletter thus sharing his knowledge with others.
Subhash Sapru lives and works in Chandigarh, one of the modern cities of India, where he was born and brought up. It was here during his childhood that his interest in visual expression began. Over the years his passion for photography has been nursed by his brother Mr Brij M. Sapru, who himself is an Engineer. Subhash acknowledged his brother’s confidence in him by turning his hobby into a rewarding passion.
Having graduated with Hons. in Geography and Masters Degree in Geography from Panjab University,Chandigarh he also did Post-graduate Diploma in Journalism and started his career as a freelance journalist and photographer. But as luck would have it, he landed in a PR organization of a State Government in India where photography was not a part of his profession.
