Born and bred in West Bromwich. Attended West Bromwich Grammar School. After a short spell in the Police, decided on a career change and trained as an Art teacher at Dudey College of Education. Spent the next 33 years teaching in Sandwell, firstly at Wood Green High, Wednesbury; then Britannia High, Blackheath and finally at Willingsworth High in Tipton, where I spent the last few years as Head of Year. For the last couple of years, I did some 'Supply' teachng but am now officially retired.

My interest in photography has always been more of a means to an end, rather than an end in itself, insofar as I have used the medium to record those things in which I have an interest. In particular, Railways and Industrial Archaeology. In recent years, I have started to record everyday scenes such as the area around where I grew up in West Bromwich. I began to realise just how much that has been taken for granted has now disappeared or is threatened. From the early 1970s, whilst at college through to the mid 1980s, I used a Praktica Super TL. This finally gave up the ghost - dropping it in a stream in the New Forest didn't help! I then bought a Nikon FE2 which I still have, although I have not used it for some considerable time. Nearly a decade ago, my wife bought me a point & shoot Fuji FinePix 401 for my fiftieth birthday. It's incredible to think that it cost nearly £500 which was considerably more than my Nikon. I still have it, but some time ago I bought a Panasonic Lumix FS62 with which I am very pleased. When I consider that this cost me £94 compared with the cost of the Fuji, the advances made in a decade are staggering. I bought the Panasonic with the intention of keeping it in the car so that I always have a camera with me. I purchased a Nikon D7000 DSLR early 2013. However, I won't be getting rid of my trusty old Nikon FE2.

MY COPYRIGHT

All photographs taken by me and all text (unless stated otherwise) is my intellectual property. As such, no photograph or text may be reproduced in any way whatsoever, without my express permission.

However, I will normally view favourably requests to use a photograph for non-commercial use but will naturally expect the normal courtesies to be observed, namely, that the appropriate copyright details are clearly displayed (Copyright: Stephen A. Williams. Reproduced with permission.), together with the appropriate link back to Flickr as stated in the Flickr terms of service. The majority of my photographs do have my copyright included in the image and in such cases, I expect this to be retained on the image and not digitally removed or cropped, in addition to copyright details being included in any description. Where one of my photographs does not have my copyright details included in the image, please presume that they STILL REMAIN MY COPYRIGHTED INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY as in the vast majority of cases this will be so..

Any website which I authorise to use any of my photographs is regularly monitored by myself for abuse of these courtesies. I retain the right to both refuse and withdraw permission for use of any of my photographs.

I WILL protect my copyright.

It is unfortunate that I feel the need to emphasise the above points, but I have encountered examples of images being used without permission. Sadly, such is life.

Whilst not in the habit of blocking people, I will block those who 'favourite' my images and then I find their own images are unavailable to me. That's hardly cricket and not quite in the right spirit of Flickr.
