A bus stop is a place where the bus stops to take or to leave people. It is a place where people are waiting for the bus. Sometimes the bus is coming late or not at all. Sometimes it is raining or even snow or bitter cold. Maybe the bus line or the community does not bother and people are directly exposed to the climate while waiting for the bus. To help these poor people they need shelter. They want a bench, or even a timetable. The construction of a little cottage at a bus stop is not easy. These cottages have to resist not only sun, storm and rain, but also vandalism by frustrated passengers. In many communes of Wales there were brave men, who have shouldered the difficult task to construct huts, where passengers can wait for the bus. They have taken wood, pieces of glass, stone or corrugated plastic and realised wonderful little houses, even painted and decorated it. It is the merit of Steve Ellaway to give the world a documentation of these masterpieces of craftmenship. Never deridingly, but laconic, as the bus stops are locations of lost time. And an expression of a deephumanity felt for the poor passsengers. Lapscause
