I am a poet and visual artist who lives and works in Chicago. I received my Ph.D. from the University of Chicago in 1982 and — after three years as a social worker, family counselor, and organizer in the Texas panhandle — taught religious studies, philosophy, and humanities at universities in the United States and China until retiring from teaching in 2016. I'm a poet and painter first, but I always carried a camera when I traveled from 1983 until about the time I retired from teaching — first a Mamiya/Sekor 1000 DTL my father handed down to me when he purchased a new Olympus, then a Nikon FM10. When I finally made the transition to digital, I thought of the little Polaroid I carried as a digital sketchbook and a way to document my paintings; and that has carried over into my approach to the Nikon D3100 I use now. But I did post photos from my travels on the flickr account I had from 2004-2016, and I will revive some of those here; and I do use my Nikon occasionally for something other than documenting paintings. So you can expect to see mostly photos of paintings here with a scattering of photos taken as ends in themselves. I hope you enjoy them, and I welcome your comments.
