Sometimes a certain person enters your life at just the right moment ... for me, this person was Steven. I received my camera as a Christmas gift (to myself, nonetheless) a couple years ago. At the same time, a friend of mine introduced me to this little site (I'm sure you've all heard of it) called Flickr. Well, I would really like to thank them for that, however I'm sure my husband's thank you speach would be a bit different. ;) I came across Steven's stream shortly thereafter, and have been hooked to it -- and his amazing work -- ever since. This is a message I recently SENT to Steven because, at the time, I was unable to actually leave him a testimonial ... ;) " I'm pretty sure I asked for your advice on this contest, way back when, so I thought I'd let you know that my image was chosen as one of the 37 winners (out of 1500 submitted photographs) -- the blurb is in my photostream (check it out when you have time, it's pretty sweet). Steven is an incredible photographer and his works have given me enormous inspiration. He has mastered a stunning range of shots, from landscapes to portraits, from architecture to interiors, from candid scenes to macros. His compositions are extraordinary, and his unique tones and play with DoF are legendary. Perhaps more significantly, Steven is a very personal photographer. Every shot has a bit of his life and character embedded in it. He shoots from joy, and every one of his photos radiates this spirit. Furthermore, despite his great success and hectic life, Steven remains an amazingly down-to-earth individual who, somehow, finds the time to visit and chat with even the lowliest of us would-be artists. Most importantly, though, Steven loves candy and cookies--and he's never stingy but always willing to share his loot with the rest of us.

I’ve wanted to write a testimonial for Steven for some time now, I’ve written and re-written with much frustration, nothing sounded quite right. The one constant in all my re-writes was the word, “Brilliant”. In the thesaurus under “brilliant” they should also have “Steven Brisson” In part it reads as follows: Very intelligent Synonyms: accomplished, bright, clever, discerning, gifted, ingenious, intellectual, inventive, knowledgeable, masterly, quick-witted, sharp, smart, talented… Need I say more? Steven, Steven, Steven, that's all I see on the page... oh yeah, its his profile page... seriously, Steven is a rock solid photographer, every shot shows that his vision is trained with or without the camera to be framing and composing and admiring shape and light, and that comes through with consistency that is certainly admirable and, if I might say, enviable... and with his skillful processing the art is always flowing off the screen when looking at his stream... Add to his photography his daily quotes, prose, and humor and you find yourself looking forward to his every post... And finally, the man himself, Steven is a thoughtful friend and a generous soul, which is not always easy to find... his comments on others streams always show that he is truly thinking about the image, not just saying a quick "Great Job, Joe", but really expressing something he finds of quality in the work... in other words, he's a pretty cool dude...

The way he combines image and text - sometimes even brief stories - invites the viewer to interact with his work in a way that only deepens one's interpretation and response. One cannot stop by his stream and look at only one picture. His always interesting choice of subjects and his control of light, color and depth of field all combine to demand the repeated viewing and exploration of his photographs. Viewing his stream is a master class in itself. There are few photographers whose work is as consistently excellent as Steven's is. Simply put, his work is incredible, day in and day out.

Steve is also a very generous man. I've picked his brain several times, and he's never hesitated to share his considerable knowledge with me--a rank amateur. Steven ... what can I say about my friend Steven. First of all, I don't think there's anything he can't do, especially when it comes to photography. He's the guy that can sing the telephone book, sorta speak. He can photograph just about anything and make it look interesting and more importantly beautiful. He manages to capture rich tones with a vibrancy that echoes his passion for life. His photos are real. They speak to the heart and they pull on ALL of your senses. Whether he's photographing flowers in their purest form, scenic landscapes, inanimate objects, or my personal fave -- heavenly bites ... he will always leave you wanting more and he never fails to please!
