I live in Hokkaido in northern Japan and have done so since 1999. I've also lived in Germany and Australia but still think of Lancashire back in the UK as 'home'.
I got my first DSLR, a Canon 400D, in March 2007 with a crappy kit lens and an even crappier Sigma 70-300. I l upgraded to the Canon EF 100-400 L lens a few months later and a 7D in 2009. In autumn 2013 I got a 500 f4L MK2, a 7D Mark 2 in 2014 and in early 2021 I got a Canon R5.
My main interest is fauna especially birds. Most of my photos are from Hakodate, Yakumo and Onuma with occasional forays further afield in Hokkaido.
If anyone wants to use any of my photos for anything please ask first. I get quite a few of these requests and can get a bit jaded with people promising to pay or send me a copy of their book but who then disappear once they get my photo. Please don't be like that kind of person.
Please don't feel the need to invite me to one of those 'post 1 award 3' type groups. I'm not being antisocial (really) but I just can't see the point of them. Sorry.

Fabulous photostream Stuart!
Stuart is a fantastic photographer and a very knowledgeable birder. He has got that knack to get really close to the birds and take some excellent photographs. Stuart is a fantastic photographer and a very knowledgeable birder. He has got that knack to get really close to the birds and take some excellent photographs. I remember, before he moved to the 7D he used to take pictures using a Rebel and yet the quality of images he produced were right up there with the big players. He is the perfect example that shows its the photographer and not the camera. With newer equipment his photo quality have only gotten better. I will be following his photostream in the future. I expect nothing short of more fantastic images to follow.
