Drag to set position!
I am an Atlanta native, and have been practicing photography for over half my life. It all started with my mom's old Minolta SLR, a completely manual dinosaur, that she handed me when I turned 16. I had to learn everything the hard way, and I still feel that once you've shot successfully with intent on a camera that does NONE of the work for you, you can consider yourself a damn good photographer. I have been a shutterbug ever since, have taken numerous classes in high school, followed by studying photography extensively in college and even some adult workshops later in life.
I now have over two decades of photographic experience under my belt, and in 2007 I made the jump from complete black and white manual purist SLR to fully-loaded digital SLR, so watch out! You really never quite know what you are going to see from me.
Of course, I am still somewhat of a purist - the vast majority photos you will see here are straight out of the camera, no editing, no fixing. I will from time to time play with light-writing and bulb/flash exposures, among other tricks I learned in my all-manual, real darkroom background. I am also ok with accentuating images with spot-color on black and white photos (much like I used to do with Marshall's oils and handcoloring), but I am not one who will go completely Photoshop on anything. The purist in me still feels like that's cheating, although I can appreciate the beauty and art in the work of others along this vein.
Since going digital myself, I have made several contacts who have just gotten started in photography, mostly with the help of the newer digital cameras, and the images they are putting out are flat-out amazing. It really makes me proud to be a part of the Digital Revolution. I look forward to seeing what everyone can do with a camera in-hand.
My biggest hope is that my images bring at least a little pleasure and a big smile to those who view them. Enjoy.
