Patricia “Pat” Maguire Meservey has served as Salem State University’s 13th president since July 2007. Salem State is one of the largest state universities in the commonwealth and the largest in the north of Boston region. Salem State enrolls 9,600 students in 29 undergraduate and over 40 graduate programs in the liberal arts, human services, and business and has a large offering of continuing education programs. Evidence of the excellence of Salem State’s academic program is that the university has more academic accreditations than any other state university in Massachusetts.
President Meservey has positioned Salem State as a critical resource for the region’s business, nonprofits and local cities and towns. Instrumental in the acquisition of university status for Salem State in 2010, along with the other eight state colleges in the commonwealth, President Meservey works in close collaboration with other public institutions to strategically and effectively deliver on the promise of an accessible and affordable education.
Known for the academic strength of its faculty, Salem State University in 2011 was named by the Chronicle of Higher Education as one of country’s top producers of Fulbright Scholars in its category. The university is consistently cited in the top 20 percent of colleges and universities in the nation for embracing America’s military service members and veterans as students.
