My version of a birding life list; I only count what I’ve been able to photograph. I started on this endeavor in 2012 (I have a few pictures from before that time, but I didn't start actively perusing birding until 2012).

I have enjoyed birds and nature my whole life, but I wasn't a birder until a trip my wife and I took to Barr Lake, Colorado in the fall of 2011. The wall of sound from the hundereds of song birds and the flashes of color from the Orioles, Kingbirds, Warblers and other species was just breathtaking! I knew right away what I wanted to do.

My first attempts at photographing birds didn't go well, I have hundreds of pictures of blurred things you can’t quite make out, and a lot of really nice pictures of bushes and trees where the bird used to be and flew off before I could get my camera to focus and allow me to take the shot...

Things are going a little better now, I now get 5 or 6 kind of usable pictures for every 200 or so I shoot (you’ve got to love digital you can try different things and shoot a bunch of pictures with no added expense!).

This site will show my progress towards my life list, which is currently (6/8/2015) is sitting at 185 species.
