I first got seriously interested in photography in college 20 years ago, but was always too cheap to invest in a camera, film, and darkroom time. But I hung out with the photographers at the student newspaper and loved to watch them work.
I did other creative things for a while - made art, sang in bands, wrote, but didn't really pick up photography again until our kid was little and I got a digital camera that mostly sucked and once he started moving, I had a series of blurry blobs.
Getting a good camera was huge and I have not taken it for granted. I love the shot-a-day challenges and still marvel at the magic of looking at another photographer's well built shot and thinking "How did they do that??"
