Born in Dundee, Scotland the early Sixties, aircraft have always had a hold over me. My earliest aviation memories are of Lightnings at RAF Leuchars and Beach 18’s noisily climbing out of Dundee Airport. I enjoy capturing aircraft in their physical and geographical element but also the context of the individual aircraft’s ‘life’ - when it entered service, where it has been and for scanned images from decades ago - what became of them. A surprising number are still active or preserved, a thankfully smaller number have met tragic ends. What started out as a hobby has given me a career, initially as a photographic technician and laterally leading a team of digitisation specialists for a large archive based in Scotland's capital.

The information included in the captions are from a wide variety of online sources and I'm both grateful for and amazed by the dedication of others in researching and making available so much detailed historical data that has enhanced my knowledge of the subject immeasurably and provided pleasure in discovery.
