The Special Olympics Melbourne Inner East (MIE) club is based in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne and is run by volunteers. Operating for more than 45 years, MIE was the first Special Olympics club established in Australia. Special Olympics provides weekly grassroots sporting, recreational and social activities, and prepares athletes for competition pathways ranging from club events to regional, state and national games, culminating in the Special Olympics World Games. Our club runs year-round sports training, coaching and competition for over 200 registered athletes with intellectual disabilities, helping them to lead a full and rich life. The sporting opportunities delivered for our athletes, via dedicated volunteer members, are athletics, basketball, bocce, bowling (tenpin), cricket, equestrian, golf, gymnastics, soccer, swimming, tennis and wintersports.
