Having followed her work for a little while now, I think I can express what has only been a simmering thought this whole time. It is something that hits you immediately when you start looking through her photos. Or, indeed, from the very first photo of hers that you see if it is among those that strike you. It is the bold use of color, the emphasis on detail, her eye for scenery, and a parade of titilating images and couplings, yes. It is all those things. But I think her real strength lies in her posework and chosen angles. So many of her photos exude love. I don't just mean two people looking like they love each other, although she is adept at this as well. I mean her love for the subject of her art. No matter who it is, it is clear that she has found something in them that she loves and wishes to bring that feeling through in her work. She surely succeeds in this. Though the subjects are still, she captures motion. Though they do not speak, she captures emotion. Though it may take her some time to set everything up, she captures a moment. That magical thing that photographers strive for. Like distilling the idea in her mind into a single frame. And she is only getting better and better at this expression. There is an anecdote about American Indians not wanting to be photographed, as they believed it would take their soul. I think she has a way of instilling life and soul into her work. I probably gush too much. For those who didn't read past titilating (pervs!): though there are many talented artists out there who are able to evoke feeling from their photography, I think Sparklebottom has shown us that she as capable and brilliant as they come.
