SOLARIGRAFÍA (SOLARIGRAPHY) es una palabra inventada para denominar las imágenes del aparente movimiento del Sol en diferentes latitudes de la Tierra obtenidas en el PROYECTO SOLARIS. Fue puesto en marcha por Slawomir Decyk, Pawel Kula y Diego López Calvín durante los años 1999 a 2002.

 

En el PROYECTO SOLARIS, un grupo de estudiantes de la Academia de Bellas Artes de Poznan y varios fotógrafos españoles trabajamos de forma coordinada durante dos años en un proyecto, que mostrará las posiciones del Sol sobre el horizonte en diferentes latitudes geográficas de la Tierra, entre el Circulo Polar Ártico y la Linea Ecuatorial. Para ello usamos cámaras estenopeicas auto-construidas cargadas con papel fotosensible en largas exposiciones sincronizadas y consecutivas de seis meses, entre los solsticios de verano e invierno de los años 2000 y 2002.

 

Este proyecto relaciona de forma directa la fotografía con la astronomía, conocimiento del medio, la meteorología, la geo-localización, la energía renovable o la agricultura. También ofrece ideas para la aparición de otros proyectos y procesos colaborativos en Internet. Gracias a las cámaras digitales y scanners pudimos rescatar la imagen producida por ennegrecimiento directo a la luz del sol dentro de cámaras estenopeicas, para crear y difundir gracias también a la recién nacida WWW, una forma nueva de explorar la realidad visible.

 

Este Proyecto retoma los orígenes de la técnica del sXIX realizados por W. Fox Talbot, que desarrolla el primer negativo de papel fotográfico como material sensible a la luz. Nosotros usamos modernos papeles fotosensibles de blanco y negro para conseguir una imagen directa, evitando los procesos de revelado y fijado. Esta es la característica principal de las SOLARIGRAFÍAS, debido a los largos tiempos de exposición la imagen se forma por ennegrecimiento del papel sin necesidad de un revelado químico posterior, funcionando de manera similar a procesos tales como el Papel Salado, Goma Bicromatada, Cianotipia, Platinotipia, modernos papeles P.O.P. (printed out paper) …

 

Otra de las características es que la misma luz que las crea, las puede hacer desaparecer. Son inestables y conviene guardarlas protegidas de la luz. Los negativos originales de papel solo deben ser vistos en condiciones de luz controlada, preferiblemente luz roja de seguridad.

 

En estas imágenes de colores surreales, el Sol aparece como una línea en el papel que describe su trayectoria durante el día y también en las distintas posiciones que adquiere a lo largo del año en su movimiento aparente sobre el cielo. Es importante destacar que no deja huella sobre el papel los días nublados.

METODOLOGÍA:

 

Cámara pinhole de proyección cilíndrica (bote de conserva, bebida) + Papel fotosensible de blanco y negro + 6 meses de exposición entre solsticios + Escáner del negativo de papel (600 a 1200 ppp) + Software de tratamiento de imagen ( invertir de negativo a positivo, rotar, ajustes de color, brillo, saturación, contraste y tamaño) + WWW = SOLARIGRAFÍA

SOLARIGRAPHY is the english translation of the invented word SOLARIGRAFÍA , it was created to named the pictures which shown the apparent movement of The Sun over different latitudes on planet Earth during years 1999 to 2002, they were obtained for the SOLARIS PROJECT.

 

Original idea by Pawel Kula, Slawomir Decyk and Diego Lopez Calvin during 2000-2002. In this project some Polish and Spanish photographers launch a free calling through the recently born internet in order to fix pinhole cameras over different latitudes to compare how differents the Sun tracks were for their own places. They synchronice start and ending times of exposure with the solstices and share the results in a website called SOLARIS PROJECT-SOLARIGRAFIA.COM.

 

Dialogue between light and landscape, hundreds of sunsets/sunrises are inside the picture, perhaps the perfect moment also. Solarigraphs are part of the images that offer the opportunity to experiment on the characteristics and the limits of systems that claim to be representing and explaining reality. We can say that nature stares at itself beyond the limits of the common vision, a gift of vision that will bring us closer to what is important within a landscape as seen through the eyes of a stone or a tree.

 

Everything moves very quickly and we miss details that would demand more time to be perceived. With this technique we discover a way of seeing what cannot be seen through our natural vision. The Sun is a clock that invites us to reflect on the relation between space and time. ;-) Without using any chemical agents or water. Straight negative, just scan and invert... Ecological, sustainable.
