I'm a retired PhD materials scientist and an enthusiastic amateur Astro photographer, specialising in imaging the Sun, which I do over a broad range of wavelengths across the visible spectrum, as you'll see from my images on this site. I was inspired to pursue the hobby after seeing NASA's published solar images and the fascinatingly beautiful results of other amateur solar imagers operating around the world. I use customised/modified commercial solar telescopes and a home built scope to capture awe-inspiring detailed images of our dynamic Sun, often in high-resolution, for which I have won awards in the prestigious annual Royal Greenwich Observatory's Astronomy Photographer of the Year competition. The Sun is a fascinating object to observe and photograph and I can highly recommend solar astrophotography as a hobby for anyone interested in seeing for themselves the wonderful spectacle that is our nearest star. Our Sun is forever changing and no two days are quite the same, with the emergence of sunspots, filaments, prominences and explosive solar flares keeping the observer very well entertained.
