Like high-speed chairlifts on a powder day, social media has turbocharged the uphill capacity of snow sports marketing and now everyone is out there making first tracks. The distributed nature of social computing an brand marketing is changing; the purpose of Snowcial this year will be to hypothesize on the future of snow sports in the face of a sea change, not just in technology, but in the way that technology is applied by real people to real sport, real recreation and real life.
Currently in year two, Snowcial was started by a bunch of Tahoe skiers and snowboarders who work for Heavenly Mountain Resort in South Lake Tahoe and One to One Interactive, an digital marketing firm based in Boston, Baltimore, London, Reno-Tahoe and Salt Lake City. The idea Snowcial is simple: Where snowsports, technology and online community meet. It’s the Sundance for the Facebook generation.
