My first camera was a gift from my parents, a Kodak Instamatic in grade school. I took pictures of my niece posing as a 'fashion model' in the apartment hallway. I also set up some stuffed animals, and put a blanket behind them for my 'studio' shots.

Later, my dad bought a Minolta rangefinder 35 mm camera to take family photos. He let me shoot some black and white film.

Fortunately for me, an organization called Alternatives was starting a photography group. They had a black and white darkroom, where I learned how to develop film and print photos.

Personal photography went in and out of my life. One day, I decided to try to learn digital photography. Sometimes change is difficult, but I I have not looked back since then.

I realized digital photography and architecture are my perfect match. Especially in a city like Chicago, that has an endless supply of it to offer.

If architectural photography is not your bag, look closely at things. Anything. You may see something worth photographing. It could be in your own apartment.
