I use color and form to represent human relationships. Although my paintings are only vaguely narrative, they relate to my personal life in very specific ways. I communicate using subtle representations of forms and figures. The amount of information I choose to share with the viewer dictates the direction of each piece. My paintings begin without a specific end point, and they evolve over time until I find a balance between creation and destruction.

Language allows me to incorporate wit and humor into my work. I use text because it leads to many interpretations. I am half Chinese, and have hardly communicated with my paternal grandparents. This is in stark contrast to the relationship that I have with my maternal grandmother, uncles, and aunts, whom I have constantly visited and heavily communicated with. I have used both Cantonese and English in my paintings: one intrigues me, while the other comforts me. With each new piece, I’m building onto an architecture of painting and language that excites me.
