Hello, my name is Steven Lamar and I currently reside in the Seattle Metro Area but i consider the entire Pacific Northwest my home. I have pretty much experienced the entire state at different stages of my life. It is the one place that I have found where you can get a little bit of everything both in terms of culture and landscape.
I am a self tought photographer that started taking photographs at a very young age. I remember when I was about 5 years old, my mother had this old 35mm camera that she liked to use and wanted to get some pictures of me flying my kite at the park I asked her if I could take some pictures too and she said "Ok, but only a couple." When she got the camera back she was a bit upset that there was no more film left. I promised her that they were good shots and not a waste and asked if we could go to the store to develop it right away. What she got was about 24 exciting images of my kite in the sky. Apparently my mom was not too excited and told me to keep this incident to myself. From that day I was hooked. You see, both of my parents were very artistic and used paints and other forms to express their passions. I spent a short time with drawing when I was young but it was not really my thing. I wanted to do something different... The camera became my way of doing that. I received my first camera when I was 10 years old and started taking photos of everything even though I didn't have film in the camera. I just loved hearing the sound of the click as I captured the moment for myself. As I got older and had my own money to develop film was when I really started to explore. My first camera DSLR was a 35mm Minolta and I had a couple of different lenses to go with it. I stepped into my first digital camera about 10 years ago and that was when the passion really took off. I was able to take the camera off of the auto settings and learn how it really worked. It allowed me to focus on my own creativity rather then just taking simple snapshots. Over the past few years I have found myself being inspired by the work of other photographers and the encouraging comments from my friends and family.
Today I feel like I have really come into my own as a photographer. In this day of technology, anyone with a camera is considered a photographer. I think that you will find that my work goes way beyond pointing and shooting.
I want to thank you for taking the time to stop by and view some of my work. As you browse my collections you will see that I love capturing the moments of just about everything but I feel that my specialty is in Landscapes / Cityscapes. I am beginning to expand into people now as well. I find it to be both challenging and exciting at the same time...
