I first saw James Davidson's work at an exhibition we were both involved in, in September 2009. I was impressed by the sheer thought that went into everything James said and did with his camera. It has since become clear to me that James has a dedication and drive that is admirable. His desire to learn more and improve daily is inspiring and he has taught me that to be a good photographer one must engage with life itself – something he clearly strives to do. Every bit of preparation he puts in to his work was in evidence today as I saw his first solo exhibition. From his depiction of the ancient and derelict glens of Aberdeenshire to the glorious evening glow of a rainbow over the land in use today, his images are thought-provoking, sometimes intense and always a delight.
