Stefan Guido-Maria Krikl, born 1936 in Prague, Czech republic is an American Artist residing and working currently in the United States. He is of mixed heritage; German, Bohemian, Hungarian and Spanish, /I only belong to where I find myself at the moment/

His mostly expressionist and abstract works include drawings, paintings, miniature installations, wax carvings, sculptures, photographs and of late digital prints.

He is best known for his hand build dioramas depicting horror scenes as if played out on a miniature theater stage.

The 26 dioramas; which took twenty years to build include a church interior, on office at the Hradcin castle and numerous outdoor scenarios which were used as stages for the characters depicted in the "plays" The sets were made in 12" scale so as to accommodate the players which were made of commercially made action figures which he altered so as to create the size and shape of the person it was to represent. All parts were moveable. Their heads were wax carved with several of the same character having changed expressions. Their faces were hand painted; their eyes being the most challenging. All in all there are over two hundred characters /men and woman of all ages/

His most popular dioramas which he photographed are his: "Doctors of Death" /Artze des Todes/ and "Achtung, Kamera, Aktion" both of which were shown widely at University and college galleries in the United States.

This is art at the confluence of virtuosity and experience. Richly provocative, it reflects a vast palette of feeling refined from inner and outer vision. Telling us stories with the vibrance of Marquez, and the pitch of Poe. Unfurling mystery in what Hesse called "the desire for the highest." Still, this art of Stefan Krikl challenges and inspires us far beyond the potency of language to depict it. So take a good look and enjoy for yourself! - RJ

Stefan Krikl's art for me is as important as eating well balanced meals! I find myself at times starving for art that feeds the soul! Krikl's work does this indeed. I realize that we all have our own tastes but a bit of spice and a variety of flavors and textures makes it all the more interesting! I for one am grateful to have the pleasure of viewing as well as digesting.. Krikl's artworks. He certainly goes beneath, behind and beyond and always manages to uncover truth- Keeping in mind..truth can be beautiful even if when brutal. Thank you Stefan Krikl for being the great artist that you are and sharing your meaningful works of art with us all. Lucky for us....who can travel your visual path with you on Flickr. May you always stay creative and may you always paint it 'like it is'. best to come!! she wolf (Diane Kramer)
