The Camera Room

A studio that was built like a giant camera with dark walls and a window at one end. It was designed to capture and focus daylight, similar to a pinhole camera. It is calibrated as such that radiant light falls on the subject as well as the background.

The discipline of using the Deardorff with its 8x10 inch sheet film taught me that when you can only afford one or two sheets something unexpected happens... The results were better with just one frame on the Deardorff than shooting 50 or more frames on my digital camera.
