I often get asked, what kind of photography do you do.... is it wedding, nature, food and the list goes on; and for the longest time I did not have an answer to that question. I knew the kind of photos I enjoyed taking, but finding the words to articulate this into a neat and tidy noun or statement was lost to me. Then came the inspiration to de - noun the work sixtyone does. Not focus on the what but on the why, and this was captured in a statement I read,
".....There was always a powerful reason to make a picture in the not so recent past. The greatest of legends were idealists with a mission. Now, there needs to be no greater purpose to the act of releasing the shutter because the costs associated with it is so little and means nothing."
The why behind sixtyone is that I am an idealist, I still believe in those moments of enchantment that take your breath away, that leave you with a sense of love, hope and faith. A photograph is eternity captured in a moment, it is a story that is always being told. That there was a moment in life when we dreamt, when we cried, when we laughed, when we loved, when we hoped, when we believed... and it is in those moments we ceased to merely exist, but truly lived.
What kind of photography does SixtyOne do? The kind that shows the strength, beauty, courage of the human heart... the kind that shows people who believed in something or somebody, people who hoped and people who loved, the kind of photography that seeks to touch the face of YHWH, a photograph at a time.
