An abstract land we live in with all of its twists and turns... Mr. Siskind has a way of tuning into this frequency, taking advantage of all of its internal waves and tones. A captured breath, a gust of wind, a sister's laugh, a deadly sin.......these all are examples of what lies deeper within the eye of this gentlemen jack. He has become a documenting NYC rat, roaming under the streets with bated breath....armed with nothing but his camera, and a willingness to submerge himself deeper and deeper into the never ending abyss of abstract realism.

Brian's photos deliver us his view on the world in a strong manner, showing us new perspectives on the ordinary and unusual views of the surprising. His imagery is inventive and I always look forward to visiting his stream to be surprised and inspired.

I randomly fell upon Brian's photostream one day, and liked what I saw enough that I stuck around to see what he was about. So far: worth it. He makes me look twice. Not many people do. Those of us who see the beauty of everyday things need to stick together.

Brian has an amazing eye for lines, color, and form. He manages to invoke the spirit of Rothko and Siskind without being derivative. In photos like Footprints, Tense, and Tennis.10, he makes beautiful what most would not have ever noticed. Wonderful abstractions, with humor – ‘united.states.of.f***.you’ says it best.

Brian Siskind is a voracious photographer, chronicling the physical environment and the human condition. His informal portraits of the people around him transmit an honest, open reflection of each person along with a sense of the motion of everyday life. In his homage to Aaron Siskind (no relation), Brian pays tribute in a way that makes the project his own by taking Siskind's black and white abstract sensibilities into the full colour spectrum. A chance encounter with the Rothko exhibit at the Tate Modern inspired Brian to find Rothko-esque images at the tennis court near his home, producing a surprising fusion of Siskind/Rothko. Don't just enjoy the images - keep an eye out for the quirky titles that echo the musical temperament behind the camera.
