I am a Londoner in my 60s living in Bristol in the south west of England, UK. I am a member and Licentiate of the Royal Photographic Society (LRPS) and a member of Bristol Photographic Society.

As you can see from my photostream, I have a bit of an obsession for 'urban abstracts' and colourful details (see my Extraordinary Ordinary album) and still lifes, especially ones that are light painted to create a renaissance style effect. Given the chance, I will photograph people at work (environmental portraits) and I enjoy landscape work (particularly woodlands)...but mostly for the fresh air and chance of a day out with good friends. I do NOT use any AI software like MIdjourney in any of my images. Everything is straightforward photography with minimal processing. I fear that AI will ultimately kill photography and am strongly opposed to it's use on Flickr or elsewhere.

I welcome critique and constructive feedback and would love to link up with others for a frank exchange of views and ideas. I am not simply interested in sharing 'awards'. Please try to avoid posting daft graphics and silly logos - I would rather hear your thoughts about the images not just know that you saw it in a group somewhere.

I welcome new contacts and followers but will block those who appear to be 'fake' and have no photos on their own photostream - or those who have explicit or weird stuff on their photostream that I or others might find offensive. I apologise if I inadvertently exclude those with genuine intentions!!

I help run Reflex Camera Club and we were lucky enough to have Simon present an evening of his photography. Simon got the evening off to a great start by explaining just what he hopes to achieve when he takes a photograph but instead of trying to make it sound all arty and full of technobabble he did it in an easy to follow and uncomplicated way. The words were punctuated by some wonderful images which when they appeared on the screen made you stop, look and then think “hang on a minute. I’ve seen that a million times! Why didn’t I take that photograph?”. His images are full of the little details, symmetry and colours that hundreds of people will walk past every single day and not even notice. It really does make you wonder how you could be so blind, How you’ve never really looked at your surroundings. I’ve actually had emails from a few club members saying how much they enjoyed the evening. That’s never happened before, so I can honestly say if you get the opportunity to see a presentation by him go. You won't regret it.

Simon has given me, through his own ability, knowledge and friendship the confidence for me to break out of my own photographic shell in 2010. His genuine enthusiasm, thirst for knowledge and patience when explaining the basics to me has been truly inspirational and allowed my photography to grow - for that i will be eternally thankful.(If if was not for Simon i would still be using IS when using a tripod and getting all bent out of shape when my photos are not sharp!) I really cherish the days when we go out shooting together as they are not only a fantastic learning experiance for me but fun.Simon is a modest man and often underplays his ability with the camera, but his photographs, and especially his Macro shots have been inspirational to me. I class Simon as not only a great photographer, but perhaps even more importantly a great friend. Jem ;-)
