Most of my working career was in information technology in the resources sector (oil and gas and iron ore). I got into photography late and remained a keen but ignorant amateur using a low-end Canon film SLR. When the Canon 300D was released I switched and started to do much more photography.
In 2001 I indulged myself and bought a two-seat sports car (Mazda MX-5) and this became the subject of my photography. Club events, cruises, the people and their cars and a few years ago I got the motor sport bug.
When I retired I decided to study photography to improve my camera skills as well as learn how to use the software tools to get the best result. I am happy to say that I have exceeded my expectations in terms of what I have learned and I am told it shows in my images.
My photographic practice encompasses a wide range of interests. Before I undertook my TAFE studies my photography was predominantly motor sport, architecture and landscapes. My interests have been broadened to include close-up photography, using flash effectively and shooting video.
I have plans to to travel now that I have finished my studies so that I can photograph more exotic locations. First on my list is the South island of New Zealand and then Italy in 2013. Some time later I would like to travel to Africa where I was born and go on a safari to shoot wildlife photography.
