* Membership helps to make the Alumni Association a positive influence for the university through programs that: sustain and strengthen traditions; nurture and engage students; promote legislative advocacy; support student recruiting; and provide programs for and communication with thousands of Bearkats.

By joining the Alumni Association, alumni identify themselves as a loyal alum/friend of a proud university that is rich in tradition and transformative in the lives of thousands of alumni and their families. The Association annually contributes to important campus projects, traditions, and services, such as the Official SHSU Ring Ceremony, Founder’s Day, scholarship awards, “All Paws In”, Distinguished Alumni and Alumni Service Award recognitions, holiday tree lighting ceremony, tuition drawing and more.

* Membership Strengthens the Alumni Network

There is nothing like being with people who share a common interest…SHSU! Our alumni networking opportunities and regional clubs are a way to keep alumni connected with other Bearkats through social, business, and service opportunities. In addition, the Association provides a quarterly newsletter, invitations to alumni events, the monthly Sam e-newsletter, and other online services.

The growth in the alumni association over the last 10 years has been phenomenal and we are continuing to grow and attract new members. We now have over 11,000 members, with close to 2,700 being Life Members.

Life Membership goes into a permanent endowment which currently stands at over $2 million. Through the generosity of our alumni members, our Alumni Association has strengthened its permanent endowment and is able to provide for the future growth and development of programs and projects to benefit our members and university.
