Founded in 1999, as a discount shop for luxury brands; Surplus was way ahead of its time with its affordable luxury concept. With a focus on denim brands and casual sportswear; the boutique was holding sample sales before everyone and their grandmother jumped on the sample sale bandwagon. Making its home on St-Laurent street, the shop took on the vintage-vibe of neighboring fripperies; with a worn-in, lived-in feel that is typical of the Plateau. In turn, Surplus catered to its stylishly clad neighbors, filling its walls with one-of-a-kind samples and damages (a little hole in the seam never scared anyone).

Today, Surplus remains the locale for multi-designer sample sales. Counting several boutiques in its roster with locations in Montreal, Saint Sauveur and Mississauga, Surplus is a haven for men, women and kids alike. The shops stock a multitude of sought after brands including Diesel, Juicy Couture, Seven Jeans, Scotch and Soda, Lucky 7, Nudie Jeans, Miss Sixty, and True Religion.
