Shintaro Tay is a 17 year-old student who has a deep passion for photojournalism. He has received various awards and accolades including the 'Junior Bronze Award' at the 'Royal Commonwealth Photographic Awards 2011'.
He started photography at the age of 10, with a handphone camera. Upon entering St. Andrew's Secondary School, he joined his school's photographic society. Since then, his photographic passion bloomed over the years as he covered various school events and sporting matches. He grew to love the exhilaration and action-paced lifestyle of delivering images for these events. A large bulk of his photographs have been published in the school magazines, collaterals and books. Moreover, some of his images have been exhibited at the 'Village Gallery' @ Potong Pasir MRT.
In 2011, one of Shintaro's photograph was featured as the cover image for the National Cadet Corps 110th Anniversary Book. It was launched by the President of Singapore, Mr S R Nathan.
In 2011 also, Shintaro had clinched the "Junior Bronze Award" at the "Royal Commonwealth Photographic Awards". Of which, his photograph was displayed at 'Commonwealth Festival Perth" and was also published in "Silvershotz - International Journal of Contemporary Photography."
Before he graduated from St. Andrew's, he was the Managing Editor of his school's online newspaper "villageonline.sg". He was in charge of managing and collating reports of school events. He was also the Chief Photographer of his school's photographic society, where he conducted photography lessons for his juniors and also contributed to the school's photographic archives.
In his leisure time, he pursues street photography and works as a freelance photographer.
