Having messed about with box cameras very early on in life., my first camera that was mine was a Kodak Brownie 127 in the early 1960s, followed by a Kodak Brownie 44B.

My first 35mm SLR came next about 1970, the badge on it was Prinzflex 500E which was a Dixon's own brand but if you knocked the badge off, it was a Zenit E which is Russian, it had a built in light meter but no through the lens (TTL) metering. The shutter made a load clunk noise when you took a picture.

I also did a bit of b&w developing & printing about this time.

My next camera was a Praktica LLC that I bought in about 1974. This had TTL metering, there were 3 electrical contacts on the lens to connect to the camera so that it could meter with the set aperture on the lens while still having the aperture fully open for the viewfinder. Again I bought this from Dixon's but I had to wait to pick it up until after the cheque cleared as my cheque guarantee card wouldn't cover the full amount. What I didn't realise at the time was the serial number on the receipt which I got when I paid & the serial number on the camera that I picked up a few days later were different. A few months later I went to France & coming back through customs, I was stopped & questioned in the back office for quite a while, I had to write a statement & reluctantly they let me go, well, young man with long hair, must be a criminal.

I also had a Rollei XF35, 35mm range finder camera at this time as well.

The last 35mm SLR I had was a Canon AV1 which I've still have but haven't used for quite a while.

I got my first digital camera in 1999 a Fujifilm, then later a small Nikon which broke after a few years.

For quite a while I was using a couple of old Canons.

Now using a Canon EOS 700D, Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ40 & a Canon SX620HS

Dave and myself went to the same school (Tapton) although we were not "schoolmates" at the time, we obviously knew most people in our year,as the years have passed, our lives have gone seperate ways, Dave with his long time career, and lovely family in Sheffield, and me moving to Australia with my wife and 2 sons in 1975.We contacted each other several years ago, and have kept in contact via phone/e-mail ever since and must say that I appreciate the regular updates of Sheffield and surrounds, that Dave has given me over the last few years, and hopefully many more years to come.
