I am a Technical Artist in the game industry, which means I used to be employed making artwork, but I write artwork-oriented software now instead.
I didn't mean to get into photography, and I am by no means a "photographer," but at some point I picked up a Micro 4/3 camera -- the E-P1 -- and it turned a healthy hobby into a sort-of-obsession. It gives me an excuse to go places and it's cool to have record of what I've seen over the years.
I've used a lot of cameras, Canon AE and Olympus OM, PowerShots, DSLRs and so on, but I'm pretty much only interested in Micro 4/3 now. For almost anything you'd want, they are the intersection of optimal sensor size and lens size, especially since the E-M5. The sensor is large and sensitive enough to handle almost anything, and the lenses are still significantly smaller than APS-* and 35mm (especially ones of comparable optical quality). The difference when lugging one around all day or just taking it with you on a whim, versus a DSLR, is a lot bigger than you'd expect. Plus, the lens selection is great. Much better than any other mirrorless format out there. Especially in terms of fast primes.
I don't know if i really have a style, but I always try to adjust the image to look as it did when I shot it, plus a small amount of exaggeration (eyes vs memory). This usually means amplifying the shadow regions and recovering highlights so the tones are displayed non-linearly. This sometimes looks a little like 'HDR' (tone mapping), but I don't use 'HDR' at all. Shooting in RAW gives you plenty of range to work with in a single shot.
In fact, It would make me pretty happy if 99% of the 'HDR' images out there just went away. The remaining 1% that are done correctly: they have no halos, they have no outlines, they acknowledge the existence of black and white, and in general, they don't reduce the image to a pile of texture with zero depth.
