SHANNON'S WILD LIFE
Photography discovered Shannon O’Shea in the year 2011. When her husband noticed her taking a picture of a tulip in her garden with a little film-loaded camera, he thought she needed a “big-girl camera”. After uploading the first pictures with her new camera she was hooked and her new life began. Her photography obsession has gone way beyond anything she could have ever imagined. Photography has given her a greater appreciation of the beauty of nature and the wonders of wildlife. It certainly has helped her look at things in an entirely different way. She has met so many amazing photographers from all over the world who share her passion for photography.
Shannon and her husband enjoy travelling around the country taking pictures of wildlife, particularly waterfowl. Shannon also enjoys photographing nature, landscapes and waterscapes. Her favorite places for wildlife and nature photography are central Florida, coastal South Carolina, Nevada, Wyoming, Montana and of course the place where she began honing her trade right in her own backyard – Wildwood Park in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
Shannon’s work has appeared in magazines and websites all over the world, including many travel sites and youtube videos. She has had numerous photos published in Photography Week Magazine, the world's best-selling digital photo magazine. Her photo of the Universal Stella Nova Resort was featured in Digital Camera World Magazine. It was also featured on the Instagram page and Facebook page of the architectural firm that designed the Stella Nova, Shulman + Associates of Miami, FL. She was featured in the April 2014 edition of The Burg magazine and the Harrisburg Patriot-News as well as several times in the Penn Live edition. Her shot of a fawn in a hollowed-out tree stump was chosen for the cover of Member’s 1st Federal Credit Union’s 2015 calendar and her shot of a Sandhill Crane family was featured in the 2019 calendar. Her photos of Amish buggies were featured in the 2020 and 2024 calendars "Buggies of Backroad America". Her shot of three Canada Geese goslings has been published in a wonderful children’s book called “Benony and His Family of Canada Geese” by Jan Gardner. Her photos of a Turtle and a Wood Duck family have been published in the outstanding book “Grief: The Event, The Work, The Forever” by Lisa Zoll and Lynn Shiner. Her photo of a sunset at Hilton Head Island, SC was featured in SouthernLiving.com. Her photo of Wormsloe Plantation, Isle of Hope, Georgia was featured in O, The Oprah Magazine. Her photo of a baby Red Panda at the Virginia Zoo in Norfolk was chosen as the Red Panda of The Month by Mozilla Firefox. The photo appeared on Mozilla Firefox’s Twitter page, as well as their Facebook page. She also had 8 photos chosen for the Picture Project on the South Carolina Information Highway website, www.sciway.net. Her photo of a Bobcat, taken at the Western North Carolina Nature Center in Asheville now adorns the locker room of the Western Carolina University (the Catamounts). Her photo of a Great Egret is featured in the Susquehanna River Trail Map & Guide. Her photo of a Great Egret walking on alligators appears in the Great Egret species account on All About Birds, a free online bird guide from the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. Many of her photos were chosen for "Explore Takeover: Celebrating Women Photographers on Flickr". Her photo of a wild Desert Bighorn Sheep has been featured in the Mojave National Preserve and Castle Mountains National Monument interpretive brochure by the National Park Service of the U.S. Department of the Interior. Her photo of a wild Desert Bighorn Sheep was featured in a TEDxYosemite talk, "How a Lonely Cougar in Los Angeles Inspired the World" by conservationist Beth Pratt-Bergstrom, California Director of the National Wildlife Federation youtu.be/pMO8-f70nFY. Her photo of the Cedar Run Bridge, Lycoming County, PA has been chosen as the GRAND PRIZE WINNER for the 2022 “Fall Photo” Contest at 123Print. The photo is now available on a greeting card on their website. www.123print.com/product/1335648/autumn-bridge-crossing.aspx.
