Sevgi is my favorite Flickr cat photographer. And not counting the wildcats at Toronto Zoo, Sevgi's favorite cat, Pamuk, is my favorite cat too. Pamuk has eyes almost as big as a clouded leopard's and a smile as intriguing as that of a Canada lynx. And Pamuk is my favorite cat because Sevgi is a brilliant photographer. Sevgi also gives us photos of Turkish orchards, mountains and other wonderful landscapes of this great land she loves. Sevgi's still life photos of flowers and fruit and vegetables are so colourful and real I can smell their fragrances or taste their juices running in my mouth. Her people photos are deeply sympathetic and reflect the diversity and lifestyles of modern Turkey. And her photos of street animals are haunting and are also a reflection of Sevgi's own great heart. These photos stay in my memory. But it is Sevgi's photos of Pamuk I most look forward to each day. Photos such as 'Am I Funny?', 'Am I Beautiful?' and 'Morning Smiling,' reveal Pamuk at her most beautiful, with those big eyes shaping the questions Pamuk puts to the world - trying to understand its mysteries - and her smiles creating Pamuk's own mysteries, which only Sevgi seems to understand. Photos such as the leading photo of 'Am I Scary?', or photos like 'Don't Touch Me!' and 'Brutal Voice', give us Pamuk's emotional side. For Pamuk is a wildcat too and there are times when her emotions run hot. Sevgi photographs it all and we see Pamuk at her most passionate - the humorous titles revealing the pleasure Sevgi takes in these photos, and in Pamuk's moods. 'I am hungry', 'can't discomfit sweet baby', and 'I want to watch TV', remind us that Sevgi is an artist, using light and colour as brilliantly as she uses composition. Pamuk has many moods - she is female after all - and Sevgi understands and photographs them all with the compassion and humour a mother might use humouring her child. In these photos and many more Sevgi shows just how intuitive a photographer she is and just how well she understands animals. There is a bond reflected in these photographs that reveals the love Pamuk and Sevgi hold for each other - a love the viewer is invited to share.
