severn and i go pretty far back, back into a time when we were both starting out. through time and experimental production i've seen severn work in collaboration with her pentax in the most wondrous of ways. her eye is immediately drawn to create an ideal composition which definitely conveys the mood and setting of the photo. also with her pictures you see light differently, never the same as you would in reality. my heart swells when i see some of her photos of the most mundane things; a plant, a wall with light peeking in from the window... and i feel so much emotion enraptured within it. i almost think of that one plastic bag scene in american beauty with her photographs. like how out of the conventional everyday pushed aside scene there is an overwhelming amount of beauty we don't realize. something like that. severn's got an immense amount of talent behind the camera and if she hasn't realized this yet, i hope she does soon. the things she can do with film, you don't even know. i get inspired by her photographs a lot. i find myself craving analogue whenever i go through some of her sets. but anyways, hope all is good in the hood. i'll probably be talking to you at a later date. don't stop taking pictures. ever. stay awesome b.

i think it's awesome how severn and i are the same age, and we both like photography. she's one of the only contacts i've actually spoken to about something other than taking pictures. i find that all of her pictures represent her lifestyle in some way, and they certainly have a very natural and adventurous, but mysterious feel to them. she hardly edits, and she already mastered taking wonderful shots on film (mad respect for shooting film btw). her photos are natural, mostly candid, and opens up my eyes to the beautiful unnoticed things in this world.

Anyone can be a photographer. With the proliferation of point-and-shoot digital cameras, the once elusive art of photography has started to fade. It is photographers like Severn, who actively explores the world of film despite it's cost or variability, who are keeping the art of photography alive. She is a truly dedicated photographer who constantly strives to perfect her images. Many of her photos are simultaneously eery and striking, like the blanket of white snow over her usual route to school. She sees, but goes beyond and provides INSIGHT by accurately framing and exposing the landscape. I'll also add, on a more personal note, that she is extremely friendly and outgoing; I could see myself hanging out with her on the regs. And to you Severn, I extend an invitation to come to Berkeley, if I haven't ruined your impressions of the town through my own photography ;)
