The heavy baggage is the camera in the haversack. Ecstatic feelings origin from inner beautiful memories, footprints in familiar or foreign lands, capturing photos, setting upon numerous strange lands, Kinmen is still the homeland that ignites my heart. The people in the island that is surrounded by sea are pure honest without glitter, hardworking, putting their feet on the ground and taking the secure days on their stride.

The clicker is soothing and smooth, continuous without rest, I believe this arises from the honest intentions of every character. These series of fast moving images portray Kinmen people’s firm footsteps and self-worth. They witness the world’s misfortunes and vulnerabilities. However, courageous Kinmen people’s persistence attribute brings them a future of their own, leaving behind the grieves of war.

Now, the new generation living in the island is lucky. They have enjoyed the richest and stable era in the century. To the older generation locals who have experienced unstable times, Kinmen is an unneglected homeland in their lives. Which land would leave them an enduring impression in relation to blood thicker than water? Undergoing hardship days makes them cherish this piece of pure island rural feelings. This is Kinmen people’s Kinmen that people of China and Taiwan cannot comprehend the feelings for the home soil.

Because of cherish, I have chosen my way to record Kinmen, registering the island’s humanity and appearance, documenting the changing times, honor and insults. All these command respect and glory. I don’t anticipate every picture will become a classic. However I believe every bit of recorded event will remain in the hearts of Kinmen people forever.

After the abolishment of military rule in the island, travelers come and go. Kinmen may have to rely on tourism to strengthen her economy but accompanying with tourism are the changes of ecological structure. Old nanny’s way of wearing ill-fitting shoes is in the past, century old Ku Tso slowly declines, the tree roads could not resist the time and typhoon attacks. Our familiar Kinmen island is in the mist of rapid changes. Distant travelers, What did you see? What would you want to enquire?

Although the outlying island is small, the stories are touching and exciting, through the recording memories of the clicker, heart warming and tinted with sadness. Unable to slash away from the historical wound marks and the spiritual grieves brought by family ties separation. This is the older generation Kinmen people’s destiny. I strive to fill another time dimension hole with my photography messages, inside are packed with furious gunfire in the tunnel echoing heavily, fighting resistance notoriously.

Half a century latter, the old military defence work has become an untidy black hole. Every minute and second nervous war preparations have ceased, the war settings follow the history footsteps’ progress, there is no territory differentiation in the frontline. War zones slowly disappear, old soldiers shrivel but not dead, glorious days, still remain in one deep corner, echoing with the moving wind and grass.

Walks into the photography records

I have chosen photography, to record my island, my yearnings. of Kinmen , experience vanishing times, memories and growling gunfire bonding together into secret horizon.
