afrophile, outdoorsman, hater of tv, a lover of open spaces and peace. i live in cambridge - an amazing town amongst the vast skies and windblown countryside of east anglia - and herefordshire - my contrasting but very much loved home, a more intimate place of rolling hills, greenery, scenery and cosy country pubs.
aspiring photographer, but sadly stuck behind desks all too often. occasional sojourns in africa provide much-needed relief from staple plastic western ways and desk-drudgery.
I'm new to this flickr thing. And indeed, my camera: a canon eos 30d. It is quite an adventure for me...
I looked through my photostream, and it seems I'm into wild and lonely landscapes - perhaps that connect us up with deep dark spaces in our souls? I guess my favourites are those taken on the most blisteringly cold, dark-drawn and embattled winter days. Not sure what that means...
Maybe it is as CS Lewis once admitted: when asked to set out his beliefs, he remarked that he never felt less sure of them than when trying to speak of them. Words can be a frail means to express what matters, to express true feelings. Does a photograph do this any better? Is it, as Robert Adams suggests, the photographers gift to see what will be affecting as a print? (cf Robert Adams, "Why People Photograph", Aperture, 1994, p35).
Please note that I reserve the copyright to all work in my photostream. All photographs are strictly © All Rights Reserved.
However, please let me know if you would like to use any of my photo's and I will negotiate appropriate arrangements. I also sell fine art prints - let me know if there is an image which you like. NOTE the files which are uploaded to flickr are compressed and of low definition and quality - they will not reproduce!
