"The revelation, if it comes at all, will come in a small fraction of a second with an unconscious gesture, a gleam of the eye, a brief lifting of the mask that all humans wear to conceal their innermost selves from the world. In that fleeting interval of opportunity the photographer must act or lose his prize." - Yousuf Karsh
Photographs from 1969 to the present.
I first started taking photos when I was a child - mostly of buses with a box brownie - progressing to an SLR during my teens and beyond.
I still own a couple of old film cameras and have a love of old gear which I try to resist collecting!
Eventually I stopped taking photographs, preferring to paint and draw and only recently resumed after acquiring a cameraphone.
I have just begun to use a Canon 1000d DSLR and I also use whatever mobile phone I happen to have in my pocket, when I'm not carrying a 'proper' camera. Occasionally I will shoot a roll of film.
I have shot the odd sunset and, occasionally, a flower macro but please don't hold it against me! I don't apologize for using HDR, though.
Although I have had an account on Flickr since 2006, I only really got started in January 2008.
I like to keep my contacts down to people who take the trouble to look at my work from time to time and give me their opinion. I have a 'clear out' from time to time in which I remove contacts that haven't been active for a while.
I don't fave things routinely or lightly, but only if I really like a picture.
In lots of ways I am having to re-learn everything and still class myself as a beginner. Fortunately here on Flickr I am beginning to find some great photographers to learn from.
If you want to use any of my pictures, for any purpose, please email me and please give me credit for them.

Sean has some of the best "street style" photos on flickr and his landscape/ architecture shots are always a treat to see. I really feel like thanks to him, I have a window into his part of the world. He has such a good eye for an interesting detail or expression that really captures the essence of the place. I also enjoy his use of processing and textures to bring out a mood in a picture, not many people do it as effectively. He was also one of my very first contacts on flickr, and always has time for a nice word about even my funkiest of shots. A great photographer and contact!
