I bought my first SLR back in 1981 when I was in high school. Some of the first photos I took were really dramatic: stormy November skies, with rays of sunlight breaking through black clouds; old barns with weathered wood sides and rusted iron roofs in fields of golden grass. I was hooked. I stuck with film till 2005 when I bought my first digital camera, a Sony DSC-F828. I vowed at the time that the digital would only be for occasional use and that I would continue to shoot film. I broke that vow very quickly and have shot exclusively in digital ever since. In Aug 2010 after a few months of wishing I had an SLR again, I broke down and retired the Sony in favour of a Canon EOS 7D.

I have the privilege of spending two months or more every year in Algonquin Park. Being out tracking white-throated sparrows, gives me an opportunity to observe all sorts of natural subjects, as well as human artifacts. Among the latter I am always fascinated by the pattern and colouration that develops on steel and iron objects as they weather.

There is a story with every photo, and I hope to write as many as possible, although it is far faster to upload images than it is to write a good description.

I retain the rights to the use of all my work. If you like one of my images and want to use it for any purpose, please ask me first.
