I'm a Brit based in Paris and working as an account manager in IT service and support. I've used Nikon SLR's for many years, currently a Nikon D700 and D300s. I did recently check out a Canon EOS 1Ds Mkiii, but came back to Nikon because I prefer their ergonomics and general handling. But that's just me.

The Canon is a great camera, but its weight and bulk are perhaps more suited to studio photographers (which I'm not - although I wouldn't mind giving it a go). I have much the same view of the Nikon D3(x/s). These are all excellent cameras, but I wouldn't want to haul them around all day in the field. My D700, which I bought just a few weeks ago, reminds me of my old F4 and F100. It's that good!

I always shoot RAW, with Capture One 5 (from Phase One) as my RAW converter of choice. I used to use Nikon Capture NX2, but I found its colours unsatisfying - especially on the Nikon D300 - and I'm not convinced it applies Nikon's Picture Controls in the same way that the cameras do. The names are the same, but the colours and tones are not. I find Capture One's camera profiles, which are not dependent on Nikon's Picture Controls, give much better results.

I do still use NX2 (working on TIFs processed in Phase One) for certain things, such as Control Points. A slightly clunky workflow, I'll admit. But it just sort of evolved that way, and it works for me.
