Save Cliefden Caves
Drag to set position!
The Save Cliefden Caves Association has been established to build a large public movement to counter the threat to the Cliefden Caves area and to convince decision makers in the State and Federal Governments to abandon their plans to dam the area. Through the efforts of volunteers, we are building a broad coalition of individuals and environment organisations who share the goal opposing the unnecessary and ill-advised dam proposals that would flood and destroy Cliefden’s underground wonderland, fossil sites and thermal spring forever. We support the efforts of the caving community who are activley fighting these proposals including the Australian Speleological Federation and Orange Speleological Society. We are a member organisation of the NSW Nature Conservation Council.
We oppose dam proposals on a number of fronts, but most importantly because of the devastating impact they would have on Cliefden's Caves, Fossil sites and other unique features. Cliefden Caves are one of Australia’s natural treasures. At this point in time, there is no statutory protection of any form given to the caves.
