Countryside and urban trees in Hellas are the focus of our photo stream. Whole trees or their branches, fruits, leaves, barks and roots. Every single tree is special for us!

 

Trees are beautiful and pure beings. They are as much alive as we are and also as animals are. They breathe in carbon dioxide and breathe out oxygen, while we humans and our animal companions do the opposite. They understand and feel everything. We should respect and appreciate them as they are, but sadly this does not happen. Many years have passed since people have been taught about the environmental awareness, that all should exercise, but it seems something went wrong, because today, those who care for nature, still struggle. You cannot say that you are an ecologist, recycle, going with your family in the woods and then, for example, buy for christmas a killed fir for a ten days' home decoration and then throw the tree in the garbage! Also you cannot say that you care about the forests and be indifferent about the trees, which live in your neighborhood. This is paranoid and hypocritical!

 

We love every tree, either the tree lives in a forest or in a village or city and one of our goals here on flickr is to raise special awareness for the trees which live among us and beautify our streets, sidewalks, squares and gardens. Every day we see Tree Abuse in our cities. Crimes out of viciousness and disinterest. Trees which have been illegally cut, trees with forgotten chains on their trunk, trees with nails and signs hanging on them, trees pruned the wrong way, trees treated like a dumpster, even trees which have been injected with poisonous substances.

 

Many do not yet understand how much good and how much harm they can bring upon themselves by simple everyday actions and decisions. Our environment, the source of all life, is what sustains us and keeps us balanced in more ways than we can imagine. But especially in the big cities of our world this has been utterly forgotten and now everyone pays the price...
