My journey with photography began when I was fifteen years old, borrowing my uncle’s camera to take landscape photographs of my locality. I would just hop on my bicycle and head to the beautiful lake by my home, discovering new paths and short hikes for myself. This is an element of my photography that has stayed with me ever since. A lot of my work has some form of connection to nature, be that a single flower or a stunning valley.
As I’ve grown, so too has my photography. I came across a fantastic community of photographers right here on Flickr who were in the midst of eye-opening 365 Day projects. There was one defining point of these people: their work was far more than simple portraiture. Each photo had a character, a storyline, a lesson to be learned or posed an interesting question. I knew in an instant that I wanted to delve into this world of pure imagination. This is still some of the most fulfilling things to do for me, to develop a conceptual work and see it through to completion.
When in college I took a brief step into the world of modelling, living in Dublin and also London for a brief period. This taught me two things: one, that it was not a world I particularly wanted to be a part of. Second, I learned a lot about how the world of fashion photography and styling.
I feel all these elements have swirled together to give me my photographic style. It is a style that constantly evolves, and there are always new techniques to learn, people to collaborate with and memories to make!
