Welcome to my Flickr site:
An image can invoke a thousand others, memorable, shocking, intriguing, beautiful, stunning, with emotion that inspires and communicates feelings and ideas.
I started photography at Harrow School of Art in 1971 and then continued whilst studying Art as part of my teacher training course at St Mary's, Strawberry Hill, Twickenham.
When I moved from London to Exeter I joined Exeter Camera Club in 1979 where I continued my interest in Photography with like minded people.
I have developed my skills in photography and achieved my ARPS qualification, with the RPS Royal Photographic Society in Professional and Applied Photography in 2012. Currently, I am enjoying doing lots of varied photography like documentary and landscapes. Travel photography is one of my passions having visited many countries in SE Asia and Cuba. Next year India!
If you like my work I am part of Isca group which shows prints to other clubs and societies.
I always enjoy seeing a good image and in my own photography I try to capture the spirit and emotion of a scene in camera, sometimes, I get those lucky ones! I enjoy working on projects and set myself goals. Visiting photography exhibitions always inspires me to develop my photography.
A couple of years ago I attended the Sebastião Salgado, exhibition at The Natural History Museum, which was breathtakingly good and I came a away with inspiration for my Yellowstone Print Exhibition, in Topsham Café, February 2014 - I have since had other exhibition and won many prizes for my photography. Currently I have a print exhibited in the RPS Biannual Print Exhibition and have received a gold and bronze medal for my travel digital photography from the WCPF, Western Counties Photographic Federation.
My early work in the 70s was in black and white, wet process photography with inspirational icons like Dorothea Lange and Ansel Adams influencing my ideas. I have always liked doing portraits of people and was so moved by the picture, 'Migrant Mother' by Dorothea Lange, depicting the depression of 1936. This image made a long lasting impression on my photography.
Ansel Adams’ work has influenced me in many different ways. His writing and his images, particularly his wonderful landscapes never fail to inspire. I have had two visits to Yellowstone and other national parks in the USA. The vastness of these landscapes is mind-blowing!
Currently I love and admire the work of Steve McCurry for his superb portraits and recently saw an exhibition of his work at the Beetles Huxley Gallery in London 2016.
Joe Cornish I admire for his wonderful landscapes - in fact I've seen many images in close detail of all these photographers which has created an influence on my own photography.
Enjoy your photography! I do!!!
