Susan Sandérus (1974) is a photographer, editor, and visual artist based in the Netherlands.
In her own words:
Photography is not just what I do, but how I observe the world. Through my work, I explore my own perspective on everyday life.
Light and shadow form the core of my practice. I am drawn to ordinary situations and scenes where subtle contrasts reveal mood, tension, or stillness. My work spans urban environments, architecture, portraits, clouds, and landscapes — always with an eye for atmosphere and quiet narrative.
I am inspired by photographers such as Lee Miller, Alec Soth, Joel Meyerovitz, Rinko Kawauchi, Vivian Maier, Kourtney Roy, Martin Parr, Uta Barth, James Turrell, and Stephan Vanfleteren, among others. Beyond photography, the paintings of American artist Susan Bennerstrom strongly influence my sense of color, light, and abstraction.
I work primarily with a mirrorless full-frame Canon, a Fuji X100VI, and my iPhone. Alongside digital tools, I also use vintage film cameras, including a plastic Holga, embracing imperfection and chance as part of the creative process.
