The Samels Farm has been designated a Pioneer (Centennial is what the sign says) Farm. Their extensive collection of antique farm equipment is housed in the machine shop, barn and other outbuildings, all protected by an electronic security system along with continual monitoring by neighboring Heritage Society members. In the 1990′s the brothers entered into a trust agreement with the Archaeology Conservancy to preserve the entire farm, including the archaeological sites.
On March 24, 1972 the Skegemog Point Site was placed on the National Register of Historic Places. The artifacts are now housed at Michigan State University and also at the Grand Traverse Heritage Society.
