WARNING I TAKE MY COPYRIGHT SERIOUSLY See www.flickr.com/photos/sally-jane/6504027033/ for an example. Ask me before using any of my images no matter what for. If I say 'NO' I mean it.
Up until 2008 I was strictly a 'Point and shoot' photographer as I like the spontaneity of carrying a camera fit for most occasions in my pocket where ever I go. There were, however, often situations where conditions did not suit my compact cameras so I have now moved into the realm of the DSLR with a D300 (a very generous present from Santa). I now also have a D5000 as I needed something lighter for holidays where I'm carrying it all day. I will still use my compacts for the precise reason already mentioned but most of what I upload will have been taken on the DSLRs. Despite this I firmly believe that you don't need a fancy camera to take good pictures but it helps.
One thing I am learning is that the more I know, the more I realise I don't know.
Most of the pet portrait images on my photostream were commissions. To find out about how to commission a pet portrait from me please go to my web site at www.petportraitsbysally-jane.co.uk/index.html
Apart from my pet portraits, many of the images in my photostream form a travel log of my various holidays.
These are my current toys :-)
2012 sees me fighting breast cancer. I was lucky it was picked up (in part) by a routine mammogram but what I have learned is that most tumours are not seen on a mammogram so, although I certainly don't support not attending when called, I do stress that a clear mammogram does not mean you are cancer free.

I recently had a phone conference with Brac in order to get help in composing a proper testimonial for his owner (and my great Flickr friend), Sally T. "We don't say 'owner' anymore," he correct me, "we say 'Principal Pet Engineer.'" I was a little worried that Brac was going to be on the stuffy side, but that wasn't the case. He howled about Sally's amazing creativity and her passion for the outdoors. "You know, she doesn't just shoot horses. Hey wasn't that the name of a movie?" He was wrong about the movie but right about Sally. She has plenty of stunning work for various birds, butterflies, cats and of course, dogs. "I'm her favorite subject, though -- I'm quite sure," he bragged. I wasn't going to argue with that; over-seas phone calls are too expensive. I really wanted to ask him about the gorgeous flower shots and still-life images. "Sorry," he sniffed, "I'm not into that. Flowers are for romping through. And as for still-life, well, I NEVER stay still. Hey, am I getting a biscuit for this or anything?" And true to his word, Brac was gone. We never had a chance to talk about Sally's stunning travel photography, or how she can make incredible images with everything from her DLSR down to her cellphone camera. I suppose Brac might not have been too interested in helping me write about Sally's professional photoshop skills either, but they’re the envy of Flickr members.

I never know what I am going to see when I open up Sally’s site, it might be a field of bluebells so beautiful that I can hardly breathe, the most beautiful and loving portraits of her beloved Brac, or a motorcycle. What I do know is that every morning I can look forward to seeing the English countryside through the eyes of an artist who loves it and who sees the smallest detail in it. I don’t know anyone who takes better animal portraits and who captures the essence of the beloved animal so acutely. If that were not enough, Sally also has the most lucid of tutorial sites for Photoshop which I unashamedly make use of. And she is the greatest flickr friend – ask her a question and she immediately sends a bag full of helpful information; ask her to support a group, and she’s there. Sally I admire the artist in you and I thank you for your generous friendship.
