I have started a new series that I've been planning for many years, and the time is right to begin. I hope it will be a place people can visit and get some new ideas and perhaps a breakthrough in their personal goals. {SEE SERIES ALBUM}

If you should venture into my Series Album, I suggest you do three or four a day until you reach 99. A night of night sleep is required for the effect I envisioned.

"I quote others only to express my photographs and myself better." ~ Michel de Montaigne

"We are slowed down sound and light waves, a walking bundle of frequencies tuned into the cosmos. We are souls dressed up in sacred biochemical garments and our bodies are the instruments through which our souls play their music." ~ Albert Einstein

"I do not see the world at all; I invent it." ~ Franz Kafka

"Nothing is as deceptive as a photograph." ~ Franz Kafka

"Memories images, once they are fixed in words, are erased." ~ Italo Calvino

"Memory does not make films, it makes photographs." ~ Milan Kundera

"Photography is unconscious of visual reality, pouncing on what the eye cannot see or chooses not to, and breaking down the hierarchies of significance and insignificance by which we order our perception of the visible."

~~Janet Malcolm

I have come to no conclusions, no endings, no beginnings.

"The minute you start saying something, 'Ah, how beautiful! We must photograph it!' you are already close to the view of the person who thinks that everything that is not photographed is lost as if it had never existed and that therefore, in order really to live, you must photograph as much as you can, and to photograph as much as you can you must either live in the most photographable way possible or else consider photographable every moment of your life. The first course leads to stupidity; the second to madness." ~ Italo Calvino

"The line between the reality that is photographed because it seems beautiful to us and the reality that seems beautiful because it has been photographed is very narrow." ~ Italo Calvino

"The greatest wisdom is to make the enjoyment of the present the supreme object of life; because that is the only reality, all else being merely the play of thought. On the other hand, such a course might just as well be called the greatest folly: for that which in the next moment exists no more, and vanishes utterly, like a dream, can never be worth a serious effort." ~ Arthur Schopenhauer

"I see through my eyes, not with them." ~ William Blake

"We are now exposed to more images in a day than anyone in the 14th century would have known in a lifetime. [...] Most of it is garbage. Most of it needs excising even if we're fearful that we might be missing something. We are probably not. We have to discard. We have to throw things away, cleanse the doors of our perception and work out what is worth looking at, what is worth remembering, what are the images that matter, what will we retain."

~~Robert Hughes

\\\

"Most of the moments of our life - and I calculated, you know, the psychological present is said to be about three seconds long; that means that you know, in a life, there are about 600 million of them; in a month, there are about 600,000 - most of them don't leave a trace." ~ Daniel Kahneman

We shall study every philosophy, search through all the scriptures, consult every teacher, and practice all spiritual exercises until our minds are swollen with the whole wisdom of the world. But in the end, we shall return to the surprising fact that we walk, eat, sleep, feel and breathe, that whether we are deep in thought or idly passing the time of day, we are alive. And when we can know just that to be the supreme experience of religion, we shall know the final secret and join in the laughter of the gods. For the gods are laughing at themselves.

Alan Watts

There will be time, there will be time

To prepare a face to meet the faces that you meet;

There will be time to murder and create,

And time for all the works and days of hands

That lift and drop a question on your plate;

Time for you and time for me,

And time yet for a hundred indecisions,

And for a hundred visions and revisions,

Before the taking of a toast and tea.

~~T.S. Eliot

"One must never miss an opportunity of quoting things by others which are always more interesting than those one thinks up oneself." ~ Marcel Proust

"There are three classes of people: those who see, those who see when they are shown, those who do not see." ~ Leonardo da Vinci

... the only reason i can think of to visit Indianapolis would be to visit Michael, and my guess is that i would be sad to leave: his subtle images linger so in your mind.

i love Michael's mind. His photos and thoughts are powerful and wonderfully observant. He uses both clarity and ambiguity to get us to think, and that's the job of this teacher. i love Michael's mind. His photos and thoughts are powerful and wonderfully observant. He uses both clarity and ambiguity to get us to think, and that's the job of this teacher. He helps to make Flickr and sharing photos pure pleasure and discovery. His comments on my photos have been both happily irreverent and somber and thoughtfully tasty - but always reminding me to be mindful. Michael is an ice cream koan.
