I have been taking pictures of wildlife and scenery for over 75 years! But, I have been a nature photographer for 20. There's a big difference between snapshots from vacations and actually paying attention to light and composition (catchlight in the eye of a bird). I consider some of my photos good, and one or two excellent. Then one day, Renee left a comment, and I went to see her Flickr stream. Wow! I spent over an hour, wrote as many as 15 comments, and immediately started to follow her. I consider her to be one of the three to photographers I follow, and I follow some excellent amateurs and a few porofessionals though, if you look up the definition of "amateur" and its French roots, you'll know that any professional is probably an amateur. In my travels through all of NA, for the longest time, I concentrated on birds, insects, and flowers. Landscapes (and seascapes) followed with every long trip to national parks of Western North America. This is not self-deprication when I say that most of my best seacapes and landscapes just pale in comparison to Renee's. One example: I have been to Yosemite 27 times, more than half those trips for 7-14 days. I have photographed the Valley and back country since 1971. A few months ago, I came to this stream from Renee, and her Yosemite Valley Sunset is better than any shot I have taken there in the past 50 years! As I said in one of my comments, Renee often equals Ansel Adams, and I have four of her images in my "Best of the Best Gallery" more perhaps than any I would chose from Adams' works. Renee isn't much for commenting, and I normally do not follow those who just fave and not explain why. Renee is the exception. I cannot deny her photography, and what she would probably tell you about me is that (perhaps) she envies my writing. I have been a professional (published) writer for a very long time. Once in a while, I can write a 2,000 word essay in 20 minutes, but most often it take a few days to formulate what I want to say and then say it. Well, photographically, it is rare, but one in a great while, I point the camera, compose in the viewfinder, and come up with a gem. I have a hunch that Renee takes more time composing her photographs than I do and, every once in a while, she takes one or two shots and comes up with (for example) an image at Big Sur that surpasses any that I've seen on Flicker. Renee is so good that I have recommended her site to five others on Flickr including two professionals. All I've said is, "If you want to see consistently fine photography, photos that you would hang on your walls next to your own (or maybe not ;-), you must see the photos of Renee Jiang!"

Renee is generous with her comments, and her images themselves are out of this world, but don't just take my word for it - check it yourselves! It's been about a year since I've been following Renee's photography. Sometimes I am surprised to see how much energy she has (little restless mouse as she likes to say). Renee dedicates lots of her personal time to the Flickr community, which can only be further admired. However what impresses me the most is her vision and skill in landscape photography. She finds the right subject, gets around it until the framing is just right and only then a photo is born and it gets the proper post-process treatment. On top of all the above, Renee is a wonderful friend and a kind person, always happy to hear from... keep working on your visions, like a little restless mouse, dear friend..
