This account is a visual blog of my travels away, the development of my photography and unfortunately the transition from film to digital.
After visiting a lot of highly visited locations in Australia, USA, Canada, Iceland, Scotland and New Zealand the drive to achieve that amazing shot is slowly being replaced by something quieter and planned. I will always like capturing the most amazing places in the world in the best light and I think there will always be a split between the two.
I started out with a Canon 5d Mark II, which I replaced with the Linhof Technorama 617iiis and now onto the Fujifilm GFX 100s. I like the slowed down nature and restrictions required by film but alas, children, weigh, expenses of developing film and time required to edit all the dust particles off the film meant that I had to transition to digital and give someone else the opportunity with more freedom and time. For me, photography is not about screens but about large prints.
I personally do not like HDR, blending, stacking or any other photoshop techniques. I'd prefer to spend my time capturing the light the way it was that day. Of course some photoshop comes into any photograph (e.g., dust, hairs on the lens, water droplets), but the minimal use of it is what appeals to me.
Now with kids, the locations are less dramatic but more familiar. i hope to provide a better account of some of the locations and shots in Australia I haven't been to yet, or ones I haven't captured in the right light. I hope to share these locations and opportunities with my family in this current chapter of life.
